What is Workers' Compensation?

Unfortunately, people can get hurt while working. However, Workers’ Comp provides coverage for a variety of injuries and illnesses acquired on the job.

Workers’ Comp, as it is commonly referred to here in California, is a type of insurance. This insurance provides medical care to employees if they are hurt on the job. This insurance program is state mandated, employers are required to either become a certified self-insured employers or to buy into the state workers’ comp program.

So, why is this so important? Not only does workers’ comp help keep the injured employee from their financial downfall, but it also helps protect the employer from lawsuits that could be a result of the injury. Basic coverage can include: vocational rehabilitation, disability, medical care, and even death benefits.
