Insurance is one of those things that can be more than a little confusing. Not only are there a myriad of insurance types, policies do vary from one provider to the next. If you are a business owner, it is important to learn everything you can about California business insurance. Your business may depend on it.

Generally there are four types of business insurance you may need to consider:

Property insurance – designed to cover both your business property and contents such as office furnishings, computers, machinery, raw material and other essential items if they are lost or damaged due to fire, theft or a range of other causes.

Liability insurance – protects you financially in the event you are sued and found liable. This might be the case if someone is injured at your workplace or if they suffer hardship due to a defective product or your negligence. This coverage is designed to cover the cost of damages and legal fees.

Workers compensation insurance – protects employees (and you) in the event of injury at work. It’s designed to cover medical expenses and wages while they recover and compensate them for loss of the ability to work.

Business vehicle insurance – for vehicles used for business purposes.

Some businesses face risks that are a bit out of the ordinary, and often there are special California business insurance policies designed to cover them. If you’re starting up a new business, it’s a good idea to speak to an insurance expert to make sure you take out the most appropriate policy for your business.
